FR701 acoustic fabric

Acoustic comfort has become an important part of contemporary interior design. In offices, schools, restaurants, hotels, houses of worship and public buildings, controlling echo and reflected sound can make a room more comfortable and improve speech clarity.

Equus Fabrics supplies woven polyester fabrics for fabric-wrapped acoustic panels and decorative wall systems. We serve customers across Canada and the United States, with both solid-colour and custom-printed options available for suitable projects.

Looking for FR701 Acoustic Fabric in Canada?

FR701® is a specific acoustic-panel fabric from the Guilford of Maine collection, a Duvaltex brand. It is not a general name for every acoustically transparent or fire-rated panel fabric.

If your project specifies genuine FR701®, contact Equus Fabrics and we will confirm current availability, colours, pricing and shipping within Canada.

We also supply other fire-rated woven polyester fabrics for acoustic panels, including custom-printed options for projects requiring artwork, branding or colours outside traditional stock programs.

How Acoustic Panel Fabric Works

The visible fabric covering is only one part of an acoustic panel. The material behind it—such as fibreglass, mineral wool or another acoustic core—does most of the sound absorption.

The fabric must allow sound energy to pass through to that core. A fabric that is too tightly constructed, heavily coated or backed can reflect sound and reduce the effectiveness of the panel.

Properly selected acoustic panel fabric can be used to help create installations that:

What to Look for in Acoustic Panel Fabric

Acoustic Transparency

The fabric should have sufficient airflow and an open enough construction to allow sound to reach the absorbing material behind it. Acoustic transparency should be confirmed for the specific fabric and finished application.

Fire-Test Documentation

Fire requirements depend on how and where the material will be installed. A wall-covering or panel application may require different testing from drapery or suspended fabric.

Depending on the project, specifications may refer to standards such as ASTM E84, CAN/ULC-S102.2, NFPA 701 or CAN/ULC-S109. These standards are not interchangeable. The architect, consultant or authority having jurisdiction should identify the test required for the finished installation.

Equus can provide available test documentation for the selected fabric. Certification should always be reviewed before the material is approved or installed.

Appearance and Dimensional Stability

Acoustic panel fabric must stretch evenly over the panel without excessive distortion, sagging or visible inconsistencies. Colour consistency and adequate width are also important on larger installations.

Durability

The appropriate durability depends on the location. A wall panel in a quiet boardroom has different requirements from a panel installed in a school corridor, restaurant or busy public space.

Custom-Printed Acoustic Fabric

Acoustic panels do not have to be limited to a standard solid-colour palette.

Equus Fabrics offers custom printing on selected polyester fabrics, allowing acoustic treatments to become part of the visual design of a space. Possible designs include:

Dye-sublimation printing can be used on suitable polyester fabrics to produce rich, permanent colour without applying a heavy surface coating. However, the base fabric, artwork, ink coverage and printing process must all be considered when acoustic transparency or fire-test compliance is required.

Equus will review the proposed application and advise whether the selected printable fabric is appropriate. Where certified acoustic or fire performance is mandatory, the documentation for the finished material or assembly must be confirmed before approval.
